Letters To The Editor:
On the evening of Feb. 1, a group of hearty folks took a culinary journey back to the early 19th century when we walked through the doors of the John Bishop house on Route 169 in Lisbon. We were warmly greeted by four period-clad ladies from the Lisbon Historical Society who led us on our fantastic trip, one that all of us will remember for quite some time. To experience the smells, tastes and sounds of an entire meal prepared and cooked at a hearth was truly enjoyable.
To see what the dedication of a small group of people has accomplished at the Bishop House is amazing. A unique piece of Lisbon history has been and continues to be restored. Much of the funding for the renovations comes from donations and money received from the deposit bottles and cans that are collected in bins located on the outside of the house.
We in Lisbon should be very proud of what the society has managed to complete with so little money. Sandy And Gary Gelmini Lisbon |
