This is a private non-profit site run by me - Charlie Web. I created it so people new to the field of vision loss can find information that is easy to understand and free of adds or endorsements. My site has no sponsors; I hate pop-up and pop-under ads. A few of the sites that I provide links to use these ads. These sites provide useful information and services or I would drop them from my listings.
I am visually impaired myself and teach other blind and visually impaired people. My training and life experience are in the education and rehabilitation of the blind and visually impaired. The information I have provided on this site is not intended to provide medical advice. Questions pertaining to the reader's eye condition and appropriate treatment should be directed to the reader's eye care professional
This site is not intended to have a complete listing of all the organizations that serve the blind nor is it intended to be an endorsement of the companies or organizations listed. I reserve the right to terminate or add a link to a third party Web site at any time. I strive to keep this Web site (Blind and low-vision Friendly). Not all of the third party Web sites, that I have linked to, will be (Blind Friendly). As stated above, I have no control of their content. If you find sites that are not (Blind Friendly) please drop their web master a note. A web site that is (Blind Friendly) will have alt tags on all graphics and a way to brake out of frames on sites that use them. Extensive use of tables is also not blind friendly.
To make a page accessible to people with low vision there needs to be high contrast between text and background color. Black text on white background, or white text on black background. Using background images is another area where problems arise.
From time to time there may be bad or dead links on this site. Some of the organizations I have listed here seem to change their URL's every year or so. If you find a bad link please e-mail Me so I can remove or update it.
